The 2016 Etsy Award Winners

Based on Berlin but often found exploring the world, illustrator Theresa Grieben’s favorite motifs to sketch are plants and animals. For her winning design, she drew upon her experience living in New Zealand for inspiration, creating a postcard of birds native to the country.

Fashion designer Sabrina Weigt began selling brightly colored creations under the label THE KINT KID in 2011 before toning down her color palette under her eponymous label, which is known for its use of high quality materials and transparent production processes.

Originally from Bulgaria, Yoana Docheva of Myoo creates bridal clothing and couture for kids. Her Haute Couture skirt – which won the Community’s Choice award – was inspired by the falling leaves of autumn and created from petals of pink chiffon.

Anja Mayer’s winning New Talent award entry takes the form of a one-of-a-kind piglet doorstop, weighing 1kg and lined with felt and lovingly created by hand in Mayer’s Bavarian workshop.

Chocolate inspired tiles by MutDesign

Mut design studio based in Valenci adesigned the tiles in three different versatile forms. They come in various colors such as terracotta, grey and white ceramic. The studio specializes in furniture and home accessories. See more at the official website here

Press floor lamp by Nendo

The glass tube in this floor lamp is pressed as though it has been pinched, which lends the piece, designed by Tokyo-based studio Nendo for Bohemian glass specialist Lasvit, its name. Created fully out of clear glass. [more]

MONSTERA Plant Pots

Dutch designer Tim van de Weerd created the Monstera, an organic-looking pot that mirrors the plant’s roots in a delicate way. To achieve the fragile design of ‘Monstera Magnifica’ and ‘Monstera Fugiens’, the designer built legs made of steel, which were bent by hand and then covered with clay.

Yoo Hyun carves paper portraits by hand

South Korean artist Yoo Hyun creates hyperreal paper portraits of prominent personalities by hand. Using an x-acto knife and tweezers, Hyun meticulously carves out the piece of paper until it resembles an abstract zig-zag pattern. Most of the artist’s work features famous faces such as Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso and Audrey Hepburn. (more)

Distorted Furniture by Sebastian Brajkovic

Dutch designer Sebastian Brajkovic explores the idea of rotation in sculptural furniture. His latest works are exhibited at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris and feature warped pieces of furniture that look as if they’re being sucked into a vortex.
